M[xx]: The Dignity Project
Deepa Purohit

at Target Margin's The Doxsee Theater

January 13 - 16 at 7pm

January 16 at 2pm

M[xx], a performance collage: A. wants a baby, B. wants an abortion, teenagers squiggle, middle-aged women sweat, the grandmas go wild, and The One decides it's time for flight. Medical machinery shifts and the female (xx) body moves from birth to death.

Where is the dignity in it all?

M[xx]: The Dignity Project is a performance piece that weaves the experiences of intergenerational American women of the South Asian diaspora, from menses to death through sketches, scenes, songs, movement, tableaux, and standalone installations.

M[xx] asks: How do/can/will women live, age and die with dignity as their bodies navigate medical and aging care systems that are built on a key tenet: to prolong life?

M[xx]: The Dignity Project is a participant in New Georges’ Supported Productions program, in which New Georges provides mentorship and an institutional platform to its affiliated artists who are producing their work independently, Supported through the Bechdel Project's Pilot FIFE CoHo (Feminism is for Everybody Cooperative Cohort) Pilot Program, developed with support from New Dramatists and the Asian Women's Giving Circle, and supported through the 2027 cell theatre residency.
